We have for some time now been looking actively for a new home to cope with demand and allow us to grow the business.
The Cycle Garage is and will continue to be a niche business that does things differently to other bike shops. A high street location is not essential to us but the area we are based in is.
I am pleased to therefore announce that we have agreed a deal to lease the former Freemans Jewellers shop at 128 Exchange Road, West Bridgford. The former clock repair shop will provide us with completely refurbished facilities and over 40 square metres of shop floor and workshop space (more than double what we currently have).
The shop is currently stripped back to bare brick inside and will undergo a complete renovation before we start trading from there sometime around springtime 2012. Here are some pictures of the shops current condition:

Just for a bit of fun I decided to build a promo bike to take along with us to various events that we attend. The bike I had in mind would need to be fun and also need to stand out from the crowd.
The first task was to get a donor bike for the project. Having recently done a similar project for a customer using a Puch touring bike with 26" x 1 3/8 wheels I decided that another similar bike would be ideal for the promo bike.
Lucklily I stumbled across a rather shabby bike on eBay over in Grantham and had to have it. I paid just £15 for the donor bike so it was a cheap start to the project.
I immediately set about stripping it ready for the paint shop and after taking a close look at the components on the bike realised that only the frame, fork, handlebar and headset were worthy components for the new bike. Everything else would need to be replaced.

I decide to build a singlespeed bike with coaster brake for simplicity and set about gathering the components required from the build. Using my usual suppliers of parts I managed to pick up all the parts (rims, spokes, hubs, tyres, tubes, bb, chainset, chain, seatpost, seat, pedals, stem and grips) for just £215.
After two weeks away at the paint shop I had a call to say the frame had be painted and was ready to collect. Buzzing with excitement I arrived at the powder coaters to be told that the frame looked awesome in pink (very funny guys). Luckily they were joking about the colour and the orange looked great. They had however over-painted every thread on the bike so I was going to have my work cut out re-threading the whole lot.
Rather than me chirp on about putting the bike together take a look below at the time lapse video of the build along with the finished photograph of the beast!

So I've decided to start a blog about what we get up to here at the Cycle Garage. I hope to update the blog regularly about events we are attending or have attended as well as interesting things going on in the cycling community.
The Cycle Garage will be attending a couple of events in the coming weeks. Firstly we will be attending the launch of Totally Locally here in West Bridgford and secondly we are paying a visit to the NEC in Birmingham to see what's happening at this years cycle show.
So watch this space for the next blog update and in the meantime follow us on Twitter @cyclegarage
